Prime Minister speaks of country’s darkest day

NEW Zealand Prime Minister John Key flew into stricken Christchurch within hours of yesterday’s devastating earthquake to witness first hand what he called “New Zealand’s darkest day”.

“It’s utter devastation,” Mr Key said. “Frankly it looks like a scene out of a horror movie.

“The September earthquake took place when there were very few people around – this is the polar opposite. It’s happened at the worst possible time, and on the back of weakened infrastructure.

“You can see the sheer fear and anxiety people are facing as they come to terms with what’s happened to their city.

“What was a vibrant city a few hours ago now has been brought to its knees.”
