Radio station cancels show at centre of royal nurse hoax call storm

The Hot 30 programme broadcast the hoax telephone call made by its two presenters who posed as the Queen and Prince of Wales last month. Nurse Jacintha Saldanha transferred the DJs 
from 2Day FM to a colleague, who then described in detail 
the condition of Kate, who was being treated at the time for a 
rare form of pregnancy 
sickness.

Ms Saldanha, a mother-of-two who worked at the private King Edward VII’s hospital in central London, was found hanged a few days after the incident.

Southern Cross Austereo, the parent company of 2Day FM, reportedly made the announcement about the show’s end on the Hot 30’s Facebook page which directed listeners to its replacement called The Bump.

Rhys Holleran, chief executive of Southern Cross Austereo, said 
the show’s hosts, Michael Christian and Mel Greig, who have been on leave since the nurse’s death, would return at a later 
date.

“We look forward to Mel and MC returning to work when the time is right, in roles that make full use of their talents,” said Mr Holleran, reported BBC Online.

He added: “We will discuss future roles with them when they are ready.”

Before Christmas, Scotland Yard submitted a file to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) “for them to consider whether any potential offences may have been committed by making the hoax call”.

The CPS has yet to make a decision on whether to charge the two Australian DJs over the incident.
