Tables turned on Spielberg

Film director Steven Spielberg and actress Nicole Kidman were in focus yesterday at the opening of the Cannes Film Festival where they will both be on the jury judging a host of new movies for awards including the prestigious Palme D’Or. Opening the festival yesterday was the new adaptation of The Great Gatsby starring Leonardo DiCaprio and British actress Carey Mulligan which has received mixed reviews from critics.

Twenty films in the festival’s main competition include features by Roman Polanski, the Coen Brothers and Steven Soderbergh’s Liberace biopic with Michael Douglas.

The actor is among those expected at the resort along with co-star Matt Damon.

Veteran comedy actor Jerry Lewis will receive a special tribute at the event which runs to May 26.
