Tour veteran Charles applauded

Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall exchange smiles as they sit on a podium at Gagetown Canadian Army base, near Fredericton, on the second day of a four- day Diamond Jubilee tour of Canada.

It is the Prince of Wales’s 16th tour of Canada in the last 40 years, a fact he remarked upon to visiting crowds, drawing a warm round of applause.

“I am greatly looking forward to talking to members and veterans of Her Majesty’s Canadian armed forces in a few moments and to recognise their particular form of service to the nation,” he added.

During the stop at Gagetown he recalled how he had visited it as a young naval pilot in the 1970s.

As well as his tour of the base, the prince was scheduled to meet veterans and other members of the military.
