Worry over arson cases

There have been 338 arson attacks in the area so far this year – and the figure is well on the way to exceeding the 640 reported in the whole of 2010.

Deliberate fires started on grassland and wheelie bins make up most of the incidents but there have already been 13 derelict building fires this year, compared to 15 in 2010.

Sgt Mandy Mellor of Kirklees Police said: “People who start fires really need to consider the consequences of their actions.”
