worth the wait: Baby ends decade of torment

Sara and Chris Sills spent a decade trying for a longed-for fourth child and endured seven miscarriages and stillbirths before Mabel finally arrived.

The couple, from Ripon, were already parents to three other children but felt they should keep trying for a fourth child.

Mrs Sills was fitted with a cervical stitch and in April their daughter was born three months premature, weighing just 1lb 6oz.

The couple spent weeks at her bedside praying she would survive. But their daughter has proved to be a real fighter and is now, finally, at home with her family. “She is definitely a miracle,” Mrs Sills said.
