Would-be rail thief jailed

MAGISTRATES have jailed a 42-year-old man from West Yorkshire for 21 weeks after he admitted going equipped to steal from the railway.

Simon Scott, of no fixed address, in Leeds, was arrested at the Boreham interchange near Chelmsford on December 21 last year after acting suspiciously near the railway line.

Witham Magistrates' Court heard yesterday that no stolen cabling or metal was found, but Scott had a hacksaw in his car when he was stopped.
