The exhibition examines lives, crafts and businesses that arelong gone but form an important part of the social history of the city.

Among the newspaper articles being reproduced is a report from The Mercury on November 20, 1724, about a courier from France who was attacked by a gang of five highway robbers near York.

The exhibition expands on the York Archaeological Trust’s recent Stonegate Voices oral history book, by local author Van Wilson.

Entry to the exhibition is free for the city’s residents this weekend as part of the York Residents Festival on Saturday and Sunday.
