Yobs attack firefighters at club blaze

YOBS attacked firefighters as they tackled a large blaze at the old Darnall Liberal Club on Irving Street, Sheffield.

The group threw bottles at a fire appliance from Mosborough fire station and shouted abuse at the fire crew. Police were called and dispersed the group on Tuesday night.

At the height of the blaze, which was still being damped down yesterday morning there were six fire engines in attendance from Darnall, Mansfield Road and Central station.

A spokesman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said: "Residents in the local area were advised to keep all their windows and doors closed due to the thick smoke.

"Firefighters worked hard to get the fire under control using main jets to fight the fire in the two-storey detached property, which is currently vacant and boarded up."
