Yorkshire commutes are cheapest in England - and work’s friendlier when you get there

WE may have some of the oldest trains, but commuters in Yorkshire enjoy England’s cheapest journeys to and from work, a study has found.

Passengers will be stunned by the improvements they will see.

The average commuter in the county pays £115 a month - around half as much as those in the East of England, where journeys are said to be even more expensive than in London.

East Anglia travellers also face the longest commutes - more than two and a half hours a day, compared to the national average of one hour and 38 minutes, says the survey by transport app Moovit.

The cheaper journeys seem to set Yorkshire people up for the day - with a separate survey reporting the county as having among the friendliest workers in the country.

47 per cent of people are said to get along well with colleagues - only one per cent short of the south west, which was named the friendliest region in the country by TeamSport.

The East Midlands is the UK’s unfriendliest region, with only 25% of its workers considering some of their colleagues as friends, followed by London at 29%.
