Cosmo bids to Westminster Dog of the Year.

Dewsbury MP Simon Reevell is hoping is pup will win parliament’s most prestigious dog competition when judges gather on Thursday.

Wire haired fox terrier Cosmo is taking part in the annual Westminster Dog of the Year, and is Yorkshire’s only finalist.

Mr Reevell said: “Cosmo is Yorkshire’s only entry and I’m delighted that the Yorkshire Post is backing him in promoting responsible dog ownership.”

All entrants go through a Miss World style quiz in which dogs and their owners set out their views on ideal dinner guests, Dick Dastardly for Cosmo, and the five words that best sum up their dog personality, which for the white and brown terrier were “Lick, woof, lick, lick, lick”.

Asked why cosmo should win, the judges at the Kennel Club were told: “To help get all the other pups to go to classes and get chipped.”

The competition will see the canine comrades of MPs and Peers battle it out to be win what some say is the most sought after title in politics. The competition, organised jointly by the Dogs Trust and the Kennel Club, aims to highlight dog welfare issues and “the unique relationship between man and dog.”
