Yorkshire investors hope for blockbuster success

YORKSHIRE investors are hoping the new Hollywood blockbuster Iron Man 2 will be a box office hit when it opens in cinemas this weekend after contributing more than £10m to the film.

The film, which stars Robert Downey Jnr, Samuel L Jackson and Gwyneth Paltrow, is believed to have cost 130m to make, but the region won a slice of the action after taking up an unusual opportunity.

The investors, who are small business entrepreneurs, are clients of an accountancy firm, Garbutt and Elliott, based in York and Leeds, which ran the project with investment company Future Capital.

The director of the firm's wealth management division Jeremy Gibbs, said: "This was an unusual and exciting investment, which played an important part in funding a very high-profile film.

"In an uncertain and challenging economic environment, we have turned to alternative investment strategies alongside our core investments to maximise the prospect of client returns."

The London premiere was due to take place last Monday, but the Icelandic volcano caused the event to be cancelled.
