Yorkshire jobs among 400 in Lloyds cull

FURTHER jobs are to be lost in Yorkshire with the announcement that Lloyds Bank is to close a series of personal finance branches in the region.

The part-nationalised bank is to shut its Black Horse loan centres in Bradford, Huddersfield, Hull, Sheffield and York as part of a national programme of closures which will see 400 jobs cut by the group.

The Unite union attacked the cuts and warned Lloyds not to repeat what it called the "disastrous" strategies of last year when more than 15,500 jobs were axed.

Rob MacGregor, the union's national officer, said: "At a time when many families are struggling to control their finances and businesses need access to credit, Unite is opposed to the shutting down of these valued local centres."

A Lloyds spokesman said that it would redeploy people wherever possible and compulsory redundancies would be a last resort.
