Yorkshire looks to keep movie star status

Now local authorities across the county are sending a message to the film and television industries – that Yorkshire is open for business and will do all it can to help.

On September 21, Yorkshire will become the eighth county to sign Creative England’s Film Friendly Charter, signalling its appreciation of the contribution TV and film-makers make to the local economy.

Leeds City Council is one of the 19 councils forming the Film Friendly Partnership for Yorkshire, each of which will set out in writing how they will support the industry and encourage producers to choose their area for filming.

Chris Hordley, Creative England’s production liaison manager for Yorkshire, said: “The signing of the charter sends out a confident message to the filming industry, underlining Yorkshire’s business-ready status.”

Productions boasting Yorkshire as a backdrop include Bafta award-winning film Tyrannosaur, shot mainly on Leeds’s Seacroft estate and Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part One, featuring the striking landscape around Malham in North Yorkshire.

Creative England has launched a database to provide production companies with a comprehensive list of film locations.
