The region is home to three of Britain’s best restaurants, according to a national food guide.
Samuel’s at Swinton Park Hotel & Spa in Ripon, is a new entry on The Sunday Times 100 Top Restaurants list, joining re-entry The Pipe & Glass Inn in Beverley and last year’s third-placed venue the Yorke Arms, near Pateley Bridge.
The list, compiled by The Sunday Times, in association with Harden’s, is based on 70,000 reviews from more than 6,000 consumers and will be published in full on Sunday.
The Yorke Arms was the only Yorkshire establishment on last year’s list, with its ranking placing its head chef Frances Atkins as the top female chef in 2013.
The Pipe & Glass Inn last appeared in the top 100 in 2010, while Samuel’s is a brand-new addition thanks to executive chef Simon Crannage’s menu specialising in game and ingredients sourced from the hotel’s estate.
Karen Robinson, editor of The Sunday Times 100 Top Restaurants, said: “We carefully compile and analyse the reviews of thousands of diners to produce our top 100, so the chefs and restaurants that feature have truly earned their place.
“It is very exciting to see the evolution of the list since The Sunday Times first published it in 2010 – this year has seen a marked increase in the number of restaurants outside London, a sign that we are becoming an increasingly sophisticated culinary nation.”
The prices quoted in this year’s restaurant guide are for the typical cost, per person, of a three-course dinner with half a bottle of house wine, coffee, service and VAT.
