Yorkshire pair charged with lottery firm thefts

Two people from Yorkshire have been charged with fraud and theft while working for a national lottery company.

A 55-year-old man from Brough, East Yorkshire, and a woman aged 29, formerly of Otley, West Yorkshire, jointly face seven counts of fraud and four of theft from The Weather Lottery Plc.

The Nottinghamshire-based company raises money for schools, charities and other good causes.

The total value of the alleged fraud and theft is 80,000.

Nottinghamshire Police said the charges relate to the alleged misappropriation of jackpot payments to lottery winners between April 2008 and April 2010, when the pair both worked for the company.

Seven jackpot winners and the company are the alleged victims.

The company runs the Sunshine Lottery between Mondays and Thursdays with winning tickets determined by the temperatures in various cities.
