And they are just two of the great lots you can bid for from today in aid of Sheffield-based Support Dogs, which provides specialist dogs to change the lives of people with a range of disabilities.

You can try being a gamekeeper for the day at the Azerley Estate in North Yorkshire where you can even learn the art of hedge laying.

Another outdoor treat on offer is at Newby Hall and Gardens, where you can enjoy a private tour of the award-winning gardens in North Yorkshire with head gardener Mark Jackson.

Sports writer for the day is a prize that money truly can’t buy.

You’ll be able to cover some of the region’s top sports and teams including football and rugby and gain a valuable insight into the world of sports journalism.

The fundraising manager at Support Dogs, Danny Anderson, said: “Support Dogs receives a plea for help every eight hours from families and individuals struggling to live with the affects of autism, epilepsy or physical disability.

“We rely entirely 100 per cent on voluntary donation and need your support.

“Sadly due to our limited resources we can only help about 1 in every 50 people who contact us in need of our help.

“Our work is innovative and life changing and something Yorkshire should be really proud of.

“We are thrilled to be the Yorkshire’s Post Christmas charity this year and any support that you can give really will help make a difference.”

Other lots include a trip to the capital of chocolate York for a masterclass at York Cocoa House or dinner, bed and breakfast at the £3m renovated Best Western MonkBar Hotel.

“Having a support dog can make a huge difference to someone’s life.”

Other lots so far announced include the chance to have a luxury fine-dining experience at Bibi’s restaurant in Leeds city centre and to be The Yorkshire Post Business Editor for the day, stepping in to the shoes of Bernard Ginns.

Last year’s appeal aided Yorkshire’s lifeboat crews, with the generosity of The Yorkshire Post’s readers raising £17,000 for Scarborough’s RNLI.
