The Yorkshire Post: Yorkshire's burgeoning coastal resorts being damaged by Londoners' stereotypes

BRITAIN'S coastal resorts have been done no favours this summer by a London-centric national media that has allowed itself to be blinded by stereotypes in the absence of the sun, the latest example being one red-top's portrayal of Scarborough as a personal bankruptcy hotspot.

If the presentation of these negative stories was to be believed, no one would visit the coast because Scarborough has closed down when it is, in fact, attracting new investors and South West resorts like Newquay have been taken oven by depraved and debauched delinquents.

All power to Derek Bastiman, leader of Scarborough Borough Council, for speaking out on behalf of all resorts and pointing out that the British seaside is still alive and kicking.

He just needs to be backed up by all those people who hold the seaside close to their heart and, if at all possible, the vagaries of the climate. It is August, after all.
