Yorkshire school children injured after Alton Towers-bound coach crashes on M1 motorway

Five children have been treated by paramedics after a coach taking Scunthorpe school pupils to Alton Towers crashed.

The coach was travelling along the M1 southbound between Woodall Services and the exit for junction 30 when it veered across four lanes and collided with the central reservation today at around 9am.

The vehicle then exited the motorway at junction 30 and travelled along the A6135 towards Renishaw.

Paramedics from East Midlands Ambulance Service treated five children at the scene but none were seriously injured, while the coach driver was taken to the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield. His condition is not known.

Following the incident the children were taken back to school in another coach.

Derbyshire Police are investigating the incident and are urging witnesses to call 101, quoting log 147 of July 14, with information.
