Yorkshire snapper scoops top awards for his pictures

A photographer from Yorkshire has earned international awards for his portfolio.

Former construction recruitment worker William Barrington-Binns, 49, from Notton near Wakefield, only got into photography around five years ago before starting to hone his craft in a studio environment in 2015.

Mr Barrington-Binns’ selection of images, Tribal, was featured in the PPAC 2017 Top 10 International Photographers Series.

He won first place in the Creative Portrait section, gaining a Gold Distinction and six Gold Awards, as well as scooping a Platinum Grand Award.

“For me it’s a dream come true,” he said. “I like to mix with other people, with people who want to do something artistic. I like being with people who are drawn to doing something nobody else has done.”

The work combines tribal themes with fashion photography, and Mr Barrington-Binns said that his studio work allows him to “paint with light”.

He married his wife Pantha, from Thailand, nine years ago and now works between Yorkshire and his office in Bangkok.

His work has taken him to different areas of Southeast Asia, his subjects have included Miss Indonesia 2015, Maria Harfanti (pictured left), and his snaps have appeared in publications such as Promo Magazine NYC.

Leeds-based Direct Digital Imaging is the agent for Mr Barrington-Binns, who has recently been appointed as a UK ambassador for camera company Phase One, and appeared at The NEC in Birmingham on Sunday and Monday to deliver talks on his photography.

“It’s not just me shooting, I’m just the last piece of the jigsaw,” he said.
