Yorkshire sportsmen join forces for French lessons

TOP players from two of the region's leading sporting sides have joined forces to help primary and secondary school pupils in Hull learn to speak French.

Yorkshire County Cricket club's Hull-born bowler Steve Patterson and Hull City's French player Steven Mouyokolo have each recorded a DVD teaching aide for lessons.

Pilot programmes have been launched at Alderman Cogan Primary School and Hull Collegiate School.

Students who take part in the 10-week course are rewarded with a visit to Hull's KC Stadium for a presentation ceremony and stadium tour along with tickets to watch Yorkshire play at Headingley.

Ed Townend from Hull City's Tigers Sport and Education Trust said "We hope that by using the professional sports clubs to drive attainment in modern foreign languages, students will find this new approach to learning exciting and interesting"

Alison Giles, of Yorkshire County Cricket Club said: "We have put two of the Hull City football in the community coaches through cricket coaching courses so that a football and cricket themed session can take place with the students."
