Yorkshire successes at Royal Highland Show

A stockman gets ready to show some Highland cows as the 170th Royal Highland Show got under way yesterday at Ingliston, near Edinburgh Airport.

The four-day event, finishing on Sunday, is expected to generate about 70m for the Scottish economy. One of yesterday's winners in Scotland was Christopher Riby, who farms with parents Geoff and Jackie at Fraisthorpe, Bridlington, and picked up the prize for best Beef Shorthorn bull. Joanne Rooke, of Newton-on-Ouse, presented the best animal in the Hunters in Hand competition – her four-year-old gelding Highlane Riley, produced by Peter Richmond's consistently successful yard, near Ripon.
