A frosty start to the day with patches of freezing fog in the east is causing hazardous driving conditions for some motorists.

Elsewhere, it is expected to start dry with early sunshine and light winds. Cloud is due to thicken later from the west, with strengthening southerly winds and rain arriving during the afternoon. There is a risk of icy conditions over hills and temperatures are not expected to exceed 4°C.

Tonight’s conditions are forecast to be cold and breezy with further rain and drizzle at times. Southerly winds will strengthen further by dawn tomorrow with heavier rain arriving before milder air eventually moves in - minimum temperatures are expected to be around 1°C.

On Friday, the Met Office predicts heavy rain and strong winds, clearing by midday to dry conditions, with sunny spells and a southwesterly breeze. Temperatures will become much milder than recently, reaching a maximum of 11°C, but a chilly night is expected to follow.

The outlook for Saturday through to Monday is for dry conditions with sunny spells on Saturday but feeling rather mild after a cold start. Rain is then expected overnight, before turning very mild on Sunday and Monday, with gusty winds and some occasional rain at times.
