Yorkshire youth hostel up for sale at £500,000

ONE of Yorkshire’s most popular youth hostels has been put up for sale.

Osmotherley Youth Hostel, situated in a former mill on the edge of the North York Moors, is being sold for an asking price of £500,000.

The hostel is a particular favourite with walkers undertaking the 40-mile Lyke Wake Walk, the Cleveland Way and the Coast to Coast footpath and has been in operation for more than 30 years.

The Youth Hostel Association board said yesterday that was keen for the property to continue as a hostel.

The director of recreation and park management for the North York Moors National Park Authority, Richard Gunton, said: “It would be a great shame to see the loss of a youth hostel in the national park.”
