Young Lucas joins family team to enter run in father's memory

HE may be only three but Lucas Allerton has big hopes for his first sponsored run.

Lucas has signed up to run 1.5km, alongside his mother Kirstie, in the Jane Tomlinson Arena Group fun run in memory of his father Bob, who died of cancer last year at the age of 33.

And the youngster is recruiting others to join Team Lucas and raise money for the Bradford Marie Curie Hospice, where his father was cared for and died in December after a long battle against cancer.

His one-year-old brother Toby is a little too young to join in but will be there to support them with other members of the family, including two cousins and older members of the family.

Their friends and a large team of Mrs Allerton's work colleagues from Leeds law firm DLA Piper will be running the Leeds Half Marathon on Sunday, May 9, all of whom will be raising money for the hospice. The fun run for children aged 3-9 and a 2.5km run for children aged 9-14 are taking place the same day.

Mrs Allerton, of Baildon in Bradford, said: "The care and attention that the hospice provided to my late husband Bob during his time there was exceptional and they were undoubtedly a great support to him and the rest of the family.

"It will be a very poignant day for the family to see so many adults and children running in his memory all with aim of raising lots of funds for the hospice."

Hospice fundraiser Brenda Doyle said: "Bob was obviously a well loved and respected man and the Allerton family, his friends and colleagues are committed to supporting the work of the Hospice. We wish them well."

Team Lucas and the DLA Piper team are hoping to raise more than 10,000 for Bradford Marie Curie Cancer Hospice.
