Youngsters battle for headline slot

Up-and-coming bands from across North Yorkshire are battling for a place on the main stage at this year’s CultureShock festival – the county’s flagship four-day youth arts event which is the only one of its kind in the country.

More than 3,000 young people are expected to attend the CultureShock festival, which is now in its 11th year, in June at the Yorkshire Showground, Harrogate.

And throughout May, more than 55 of the county’s aspiring young local bands will be competing in four separate heats, called Kings and Queens of CultureShock, for the chance to play on the main stage alongside headline acts.

Arthur Barker, North Yorkshire county council’s executive member for the children and young people’s service, said: “CultureShock has become a major event in the summer calendar for the county’s young people.

“ It also gives our young people a chance to enjoy and learn about a range of arts.

“The kings and queens battle-of-the-bands is hugely popular and gives aspiring young musicians a great opportunity at the festival to showcase a wealth of talent.”
