Youngsters win Prince's Trust award

SEVEN Sheffield youngsters have won a prestigious national Prince's Trust award for their community work in the city.

They were presented with the Balfour Beatty Community Impact Award at the Prince's Trust Celebrate Success ceremony at Leicester Square in London.

They were recognised for their efforts in holding an award ceremony honouring young people who had been in care, challenging negative stereotypes and celebrating their successes.

The group invited young people, foster families, employers of care leavers, the Connexions provider in Sheffield, social workers, councillors, news media, the director of Children's Specialist Services and senior local authority managers.

Sheffield Council has pledged to run the ceremony every year.

The group all belong to the SOVA CAST and Befriending Project, which supports those in or leaving the care system.
