Leaked pictures of the construction reveal a hive of activity, with large white tents and vans travelling back and forth to prepare the location among the old quarry buildings for filming .

Due to the geography of the region, the preparations can be viewed from the other side of the lough in Islandmagee, from where they were captured by a photographer from the Larne Times.

Meanwhile, the original set at Magheramorne was also being spruced up in preparation for filming, with workers in cherry pickers painting the quarry side white to emulate the icy backdrop of The Wall.

The area has become a popular filming location for Game of Thrones, with Sallagh Brae and Carnlough Harbour also appearing in the HBO series.

Privately-owned land nearby was used to shoot scenes featuring 400 extras for the sixth season.

There was speculation that the site was being used as the Dothraki grasslands, where Queen Daenarys Targaryen was last sighted before being surrounded by Dothraki warriors.

In September, a further picture emerged showing a tall, round wooden structure with a pointed roof and small entrance hall.

At that time, fan site Westeros.org speculated that the set could be used as a small sept, a place of worship for the seven gods of Westeros.

There have also been calls for the vacant Larne courthouse to be turned into a Game of Thrones museum and for the set at The Wall to remain after filming wraps, enabling Larne to become the go-to place for Game of Thrones destination tourism in the Province.

Season six of Game of Thrones will be screened in Spring 2016.
