Youth groups invited to bid for cash

People in Castleford will determine which voluntary and community groups will benefit from a slice of £35,000 funding this week.

The money is for groups who provide worthwhile activities to young people aged 11 to 18 in the Castleford area.

Community groups who have applied for the funding will present their project to local residents at Castleford’s Civic Centre on January 16 at the ‘Positive Choices’ event.

People from the community will then vote to decide which projects they would like to support.

The event is organised by the Wakefield Together Partnership comprising Wakefield and District Housing (WDH), Wakefield Council, West Yorkshire Police and NHS Wakefield District.

Councillor Peter Box, chairman of the Wakefield Together Partnership and Leader of Wakefield Council, said: “Voluntary and community groups make a real difference to our local communities. They also help keep young people off the street and away from anti-social behaviour.

“This is a great opportunity for projects in the area to receive vital funding and support to help create stronger communities and continue their good work.”
