YP’s classic car rally is a blast from the past

CAR FANS took a step back in time at the Yorkshire Post Classic Car Rally as hundreds of vintage vehicles went on show at a Leeds tourist attraction.

Around 10,000 people attended the event at Harewood House, near Leeds, was held on Sunday, June 15, which included a range of cars from Minis to Morris Minors, and also saw prizes awarded for best in class.

The rally also included various trade stands, a fun fair, vintage stalls, food and drinks, as well as perfomances by the James Dylan Motorcycle stunt team, Company of Horsemen Wild West and Cossack trick riding displays.

Vintage Steam exhibitors also attended the show on Father’s Day.

Organiser Lisa Bradbury, senior events co-ordinator for the Yorkshire Post, said: “We were overwhelmed by the numbers coming through the doors.

“The weather wasn’t great but there were still plenty of dads with their heads in the car bonnets.”

The car rally originally started 20 years ago and now attracts classic and vintage cars of all types from readers and motor clubs throughout Yorkshire and beyond.

Other interesting vehicles at the Yorkshire Post Classic Car Rally included a 1925 Morris Oxford Bullnose and a Commer/Dodge Spacevan from 1981, which was used in the BBC1 drama ‘Field of Blood’.

Also sharing the spotlight was an MGB Roadster, which is owned by Les Redshaw, 72, of Glusburn, who has been an MG fan since the 1970s and enjoys restoring vintage vehicles.

Comedian and Grumbleweed star Robin Colvill also took his Ford Super Angliato the event, which he has spent 900 hours repairing.
