YTV at 50: Half a century of glamour from Yorkshire's Hollywood

At lunchtime on Sunday, old-timers will gather in a pub in Guiseley, north of Leeds, to regale each other with tales of what they had been doing exactly half a century earlier.

He travelled the world making films, but among his best-known was one shot closer to home, with the Halifax-born Percy Shaw, inventor of the “cat’s eye” road stud.

Studio 4, the biggest in Yorkshire, was home to a succession of series whose stars were household faces.

Gerald Harper, as the playboy aristocrat Hadleigh, is perhaps the best remembered, but YTV’s roster also included John Stride as the lawyer David Main in The Main Chance, and Margaret Lockwood as the Northern barrister Harriet Peterson, in Justice.
