'Zero tolerance' warning to youths

YOUTHS who have been gathering at a derelict site in the Adel area of Leeds are being warned they face a "zero tolerance" approach from police.

Officers from the North West Outer Neighbourhood Policing Team are stepping up patrols around the site of the old Eastmoor School, in Tile Lane, following a number of reports of anti-social behaviour in the area. In the past few weeks, groups of up to 30 youths have been meeting up at the site at weekends and during the school holidays. Residents living nearby have been threatened and damage has been caused to fences.

It is believed the gatherings are organised on the internet and that local youths are being joined by others from areas including Meanwood and Bramley.

Sgt Neil Matthews, of the North West Outer NPT, said: "I want to make it absolutely clear to anyone who is thinking of going along to this site that they will be met with a zero tolerance approach from us.

"The behaviour that people living nearby have experienced is completely unacceptable and we will now be focusing our attention on this area to tackle the problem."
