Zulu dancers to bring taste of Africa to town arts centre

AN arts centre in Goole will be getting a taste of Africa on Saturday when the song and dance group Zulu takes the stage.

Formed from members of The Mighty Zulu Nation, who reached a televised audience of millions when they performed for the first officially sanctioned Mandela Day at the British Museum in July last year, the band will appear at The Junction, in Paradise Place, from 8pm.

The group, which hails from Durban in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa, delivers a heady mix of African harmonies, drama and energetic dance in traditional costume.

The company draws on the Zulus' turbulent history and contemporary Africa to deliver a message of peace.

Junction marketing officer Chris Williams said the group, who previously performed at the venue as part of The Mighty Zulu Nation in 2009, would be making a welcome return.

He said: "Every now and then a company crops up and really makes their mark on an audience.

"Mighty Zulu Nation is one of those companies and we're delighted that the new group, Zulu, are returning to Goole."

The junction offers a varied programme of arts events for a range of audiences and is currently screening a series of classic films for older audiences.

As part of its "silver screen" programme it will today be showing Breakfast at Tiffany's, the 1961 film starring George Peppard and Audrey Hepburn.
