Firefighters were called to land near the Black Horse Hotel, in Rawcliffe Bridge, near Goole, after the animals were spotted at about 1pm today (Sunday).

Water rescue specialists dug a trench and pulled the 12 sheep out of the mud and water to safety.

A spokesman for Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said the sheep were then guided to land and returned to the farmer.
