Seven homes evacuated due to fire from ruptured gas pipe in West Yorkshire

A total of seven homes were evacuated as the fire service dealt with a fire from a ruptured gas pipe in West Yorkshire.

Crews responded to the fire at a ruptured external gas main - which caused a build up of gas in the basements of properties on Wood Street, Castleford shortly after 9pm on Tuesday night (February 23).

A group of 20 residents were evacuated from the homes for a period of time, West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed.

Northern Gas attended to isolate the leak before crews were able to extinguish the fire and ventilate properties.

Residents were then allowed to return to their homes.

An appliance from Castleford station attended the incident, the fire service said.
