South Yorkshire Police officer 'failed to conduct adequate investigation' for child victim of rape and sexual assault in Rotherham

A South Yorkshire Police officer will face a misconduct hearing after it is alleged they failed to conduct adequate investigations relating to allegations of assault, sexual assault and tape on a child in Rotherham.

The officer, who has not been named by the force, will appear before a misconduct panel for a hearing on March 29.

A statement on the force's website reads: "In 2007, an officer failed to conduct adequate investigations relating to allegations of assault, sexual assault and rape on a child, as well as failing to record the matters in line with appropriate legislation. These allegations arise from the investigation into child sexual exploitation in Rotherham.

"These are alleged breaches of the standard of professional behaviour of Orders and Instructions, Duties and Responsibilities and Discreditable Conduct. They individually and/or cumulatively could amount to gross misconduct."

The hearing, which will be held at the force's professional standards department in Chapeltown, Sheffield, is expected to last four days.
