50 years is chalked up for club

Bishop Burton Farmers' Club has celebrated its 50th anniversary, with a dinner at Bishop Burton College, where it holds its meetings.

In the picture, left to right, are current chairman Caley Sackur, founder member John Dunning and the principal of Bishop Burton College, Jeanette Dawson.

The club was founded by a college principal four years after the Bishop Burton Farm Institute, as it was then known, opened, in 1954. But it was open to farmers from all over Yorkshire. Mr Dunning said at the dinner: "It's a club for progressive farmers and I strongly believe in 50 years' time membership will still consist of the progressive farmers of the county."
