The Adcocks, the world No 6 pair, proved too good for Gary Fox and Lauren Smith, triumphing 21-10 21-13 in 30 minutes to land their second national crown together.

Sam Parsons, 19, lifted his first men’s singles title with a two-game victory over Andrew Smith, while Nicola Cerfontyne did the same against England’s No 1 Fontaine Chapman to secure the women’s crown.

Heather Olver, after five straight defeats, and Lauren Smith raced to women’s doubles glory, while England’s No 1 men’s pairing, Chris Langridge and Marcus Ellis, won a frenetic clash and the tightest final of the day against Matthew Nottingham and Harley Towler.

In Perth, Kirsty Gilmour and Kieran Merrilees retained their singles titles as they resisted the challenge of the emerging young stars on finals day at the Yonex Scottish national championships.

Gilmour made it four wins in a row by beating Mauchline’s Holly Newall 21-7 21-3, and Merrilees overcame Edinburgh rival Matthew Carder 21-16 10-21 21-11 to claim his fourth title.

But they were both upstaged by Imogen Bankier as the 2011 world silver medallist took her nationals title haul to 15 with a sixth women’s doubles success and a ninth consecutive mixed doubles victory.
