Almost 100 entries in for season’s opener

A seven-race card will begin at 12 noon with AGA once again continuing their sponsorship of the Ladies Open races.

The countrywide series will culminate with a final at Stratford on Friday, June 7, where the winner of the series will receive a brand new iTotal Control AGA.

The first three home in each of the 34 AGA sponsored races will qualify, along with the winner of every other ladies open race with the riders scoring points according to their placings.

Yorkshire’s very own Jacqueline Coward won the final at Cheltenham last season on her own Amicelli, but didn’t quite have enough points to bring the AGA home.

Sunday’s opening race is for members of the Yorkshire Area Point-to-Point Club with horses who have not won under the rules of racing, apart from National Hunt Flat Races, Hunter Chases and Point-to-Points.

The Men’s Open also promises to be a high-class affair, with second-season jockey William Easterby having a choice of horses to choose between.

But the one to beat could be ClassinaGlass for Tom Bannister, an exciting horse trained by David Easterby who is following closely in the footsteps of Easterby’s other stalwart, My Old Piano.

The day’s racing is preceded with two pony races taking place featuring the stars of tomorrow at 11.15am and 11.20am – with both contests sponsored by Tim Easterby Racing.

Admission to the meeting is £10 per person and racecards are £3 each.

All proceeds will be donated to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and organisers will be hoping to exceed last year’s donation of £12,000.

There will also be a bar, hog roast and mulled wine.
