Artist Jane hopes to use ‘personal journey’ to help her develop techniques

ARTIST Jane Lazenby is about to embark on a project that will involve completing 100 paintings in 100 days for under £100.

She plans to start on this challenge on May 1 and is something which she is taking very seriously.

Jane, an equestrian artist who lives at Kexborough near Barnsley, says that some of her contemporaries have completed this challenge over the past year and she has watched their work develop day by day.

“My main reason for accepting this challenge is so that I can allow my work to develop without the constraints of a commission brief,” said Jane, one of whose paintings can be viewed below.

“I see this as a personal artistic journey that will allow me to become closer and more intuitive with my painting techniques, to try more unusual images and colour combinations and most importantly, to follow my heart and fascination for light and shade.

“The majority of my images will be equestrian in nature and on a smaller scale. There may be a few hiccups in my 100-day time-scale but I shall endeavour to produce one drawing or painting each day.

“I realise that this will be a very difficult voyage of discovery and fitting it around my four-year-old daughter, work and three horses will make it even more testing.”

She hopes that people will donate images to her as inspiration for the project and they will be under no obligation to buy the resulting painting.

“I’m hoping though that these smaller, more imaginative paintings prove to be a very affordable way for people to own a piece of original art,” she added.

In recent weeks she has visited both the Rockwood Harriers and the Badsworth and Bramham Moor hunts to take photographs which will help provide material for the project.

If you would like to watch the artist in action, Jane will also be taking part in the annual Open Studio scheme on April 30-May 2 and May 7-8. Last year 125 people visited her studio during this event. She will be demonstrating the techniques she uses for painting equestrian portraits at 1.30pm each day.
