Aston challenges Sheffield to be quick out of blocks

BULLIISH Mark Aston has urged his Sheffield Eagles side to start as they mean to go on when the Championship season gets underway tomorrow.

The Eagles, who finished third last season, have enjoyed a 100 per cent record in the Northern Rail Cup including victory over favourites Halifax.

They face the same opponents at The Shay looking to defeat last year's beaten Grand Finalists.

"We're capable of achieving anything this year but it's about time that we started the league season how we finished it last year," said Aston.

Promoted Dewsbury Rams begin against Toulouse in France tomorrow when fellow newcomers Keighley Cougars are at Super League-chasing Widnes Vikings .

Cougars coach Barry Eaton admitted: "It's a big step up.

"One of the reasons we brought in a new conditioner is because of the difference in strength and athletic ability."

Featherstone Rovers entertain Batley Bulldogs while, in Championship One, Hunslet welcome Gateshead, relegated Doncaster visit Rochdale and York face London Skolars.
