Audio: Thompson looks to upset hosts

GREAT BRITAIN coach Paul Thompson admits his team face their toughest challenge so far when they take on favourites Slovenia in the World Championships on Tuesday night.

But the GB chief believes his players have the skill and speed to cause their hosts plenty of problems at the Tivoli Arena (6pm UK time).

Britain have won their opening two games, as have the hosts, who romped to a 10-1 win over Croatia on Sunday night, 24 hours after Thompson's side enjoyed a 4-1 victory over the same opponents.

Thompson has seen the Slovenians in action during both of their matches so far and admits they possess more experience and offence than his own young side.

But his team's skating ability could prove a major factor in pulling off a shock victory in Llubljana.

"Slovenia probably have a bit more finish in them than we do and a little bit more top-end experience but we know we've got to make it a tight game, play solid defence against them," said Thompson.

"Bt we're young, we skate well and we're full of energy andve got to make sure we're all on the same page.

"We understand it's a massive task but one we're excited about."

The British line-up has been boosted by the arrival of defenceman Stephen Lee, who missed the team journey on Friday after being hospitalised with a virus.

But, with a lot of help from his dad Chris, Lee was able to make the 1,870 journey by car to be reunited with his team-mates on Tuesday morning.

"We're going to need our 'A' game in the next three games but, you know, miracles happen and we'll be going out there against Slovenia to get sgtage one of it done.

"

It's a gold medal game, no doubt about it. And it's the same the following day (against Hungary) and against Poland on Friday.

"We've got a sniff of something but if we win (against Slovenia) we'll have put ourselves in a great position."
