Balance of roster in Hull lifts Campbell

NEW Hull Stingrays signing Derek Campbell says he is impressed by the strength of the roster put together by player-coach Sylvain Cloutier for the 2011-12 Elite League campaign.

Campbell yesterday became the last import forward to be brought in by Cloutier for the new season and feels the East Yorkshire club have got the balance right out on the ice.

“For a team to be successful you need to have a good balance,” said the 31-year-old, who lifted the league title with Coventry Blaze and then Sheffield Steelers in the last two years.

“There are some big, physical players and some skilled players – there is a bit of everything.”

With Jereme Tendler once again expected to lead the way in scoring, Campbell has been brought in by Cloutier to provide the kind of physical edge needed to make that possible.

“We have big guys who will play the body and stand up for each other,” he added. “And we have a guy like Jereme who scored 50 goals last season.

“We certainly won’t be intimidated by anyone.”
