Barnsley ease to win with 10-try assault

Yorkshire Two

Barnsley ran out 60-0 home winners with a 10-try onslaught against Yarnbury, relegated from Yorkshire One.

Yarnbury looked dangerous in the backs but had no answer to Barnsley's forward strength.

The home side took control with two early tries by winger Darryl Cheetham, and three minutes later No 8 Dave Reed, the team's new captain, scored the first of his two tries.

Marlon Wragg, Patrick Jensen, Joe South, Thomas Naisby, Scott Hinchcliffe and Aaron Gaunt scored Barnsley's other tries.

Skipton, who finished bottom of Yorkshire One last season, had their morale lifted when they scored an 18-13 win at Hullensians, who at one point led Yorkshire Two in the last campaign.

West Park Leeds, who finished on the same number of points as their rivals last term, snatched a 24-22 verdict by three tries to one on their visit to Doncaster Phoenix. West Park had turned round 13-3 down but swung the match with pushover tries from flanker Dominic McIlrum and replacement hooker Richard Storey, with winger Alistair Booth running in the other.

Scrum-half Joe Watts scored the only Phoenix try.
