Barnsley v Bristol City: Home-grown striker could be the answer

TEENAGER Jordan Clark is set to make his Football League debut for Barnsley against Bristol City.

The striker, 17, has caught the eye of manager Mark Robins, whose side are playing only for pride between now and the end of the season.

“I always say that I won’t throw in young players until they are ready – but, mentally and technically, Jordan is ready,” said Robins. “He looks like the type of player I am scouring the length and breadth of the world trying to find and he was right under our nose.

“There are one or two others (youngsters) who may get some game time before the end of the season,” he added. “But there is still a lot of work to be done. I do not want to coast through the remaining seven matches.”

Opponents Bristol City have won six out of the last seven games but are still 10 points adrift of the play-off zone.

“We are in no-man’s land and so matches that don’t have that edge tend to frustrate fans,” Robins admitted. “But we want to put on a show and finish the season with a flourish not a whimper.”
