Barnsley V Leicester City: Striker aims for Oakwell return

BARNSLEY manager Mark Robins is hoping to conclude a deal to bring Birmingham City striker Garry O'Connor back to Oakwell.

The Scotland international joined on a three-month loan deal at the start of the season but was sent back to St Andrews due to financial restrictions.

O'Connor is also battling a stomach/groin injury but Robins, whose side today hope to improve their impressive home form against Leicester City, is keen to give him another chance.

"The opportunity presented itself to us for Garry to come back," said Robins, whose initial loan of the former Lokomotiv Moscow hitman in September yielded one goal in four games.

"He's told me he's fit to play, but I just want to check everything is ok before we sign the contract. It's just diligence from our part and the right way to deal with things.

"He showed glimpses of what he can do and I know he feels as though he's got some unfinished business for us. He was keen to come back."

Leicester have picked up under Eriksson and have already demonstrated their ability to win on the road with their 2-1 triumph at Elland Road last month.

"I'm sure that if we are right then it will be a tough game for them," said Robins. "We're only concerned with our own game and if we are on it then it will be a difficult one for them. We have to step up mentally as a side and as a club and go out for three points. We have to make it happen."
