Barras inches ahead of his rival Cronshaw

The 36-year-old who rides for the NFTO Pro Cycling Team took the win inches ahead of rival Matt Cronshaw (Madison Genesis) at the end of the 63-mile race which was a National-ranked elite race.

In East Yorkshire, talented 23-year-old Joe Clark won the BBM Revolution Road Race around Pollington, sprinting to victory ahead of team-mate Kieran Simcox in the 55-mile race.

Riding for Envelope Master-Bike Box Alan, Belper-based Clark edged to victory ahead of Worksop 17-year-old Simcox, with David Johnson (Blumilk RT) third, seven seconds back.

Simcox had been in an early break alongside Matt Bulmer and Jack Ibbotson, and they stayed clear of the chasing bunch for 40 miles before being reeled in by a chasing group which included Clark.

As they headed for the line, the two team-mates broke off the front to take the win.

In time trialling, Ilkley CC’s Henry King took victory in the Yorkshire Road Club 10 at Addingham yesterday.

He clocked 24.12 to win by almost a minute-and-a-half on the same course where he had finished second to former national hill-climb champion Tejvan Pettinger seven days earlier.

Leading veteran Blair Buss (Team Swift) was the best of the veterans on age standard and was second overall, while Yorkshire Road Club’s Philip Turton was third and top junior Kieran Savage clocked 25.56 to set a new junior course record.

Near Ripon, Team Swift celebrated a 1-2-3 in Saturday’s Harrogate Nova CC 24-mile event.

Huddersfield’s Alastair Wareham clocked 53.29 to take the win on a windy afternoon, ahead of team-mates Joel Wainman from Hessle and Mark Wolstenholme.
