Basketball: Rested Leeds Force eager to add to luckless Raiders’ early struggles – Sayers

Leeds Force have had a rather busy schedule this season with double header weekends a regular occurrence up to this point.

However, with no games scheduled this last weekend, we, as players, have been given the chance to rest and recuperate.

Our minds and bodies will surely be thankful for the break, which allows us the opportunity of coming into this weekend’s clash against Plymouth Raiders with a full tank.

Despite there being no game to look forward to, Force took to the practice court last week to get an early start on their preparations for Plymouth on Friday, November 6.

The focus has primarily been on the defensive end of our game, an aspect which we take great pride in but, admittedly, has not been up to standards in recent weeks.

While Force were on the practice court trying to find solutions to those problems, for the rest of the league, the show went on.

Worcester Wolves and Leicester Riders both picked up wins in their respective games to maintain their spots inside the top three of the British Basketball League table.

Worcester’s new signing, Josh Cameron, had an impressive debut, finishing with 20 points including five in the closing moments of the game to help his team win!

Meanwhile, BBL frontrunners Newcastle Eagles, advanced to the semi-final of the Cup after the Glasgow Rocks took them right down to the wire in a hardfought performance on Friday night.

Heading across the Atlantic now, let’s talk about the commencement of the NBA season last week and there has been plenty of excitement already. One particularly reliable source of excitement has come from reigning NBA most valuable player, Stephen Curry who has been showing us exactly why he was given that accolade last season.

Not only did the Golden State Warriors point guard score 40 points in the opening game of the season but he went on to score a colossal 53 points, only a few nights later, with 28 of them coming in the third quarter alone!

We’re back on home soil now and this weekend sees your Leeds Force take on Plymouth University Raiders at the Carnegie Sports Arena.

There are plenty of reasons to watch the game with a number of intriguing sub plots.

Raiders are still looking for their first win of the season and with the recent appointment of Daryl Corletto as player/coach following the shock departure of Jay Marriott, they’ll be surely looking to prove themselves and get off the mark.

Force are also hungry to get back to winning form after a couple of tough weekends and will be ready to play on the back of prolonged preparation period, and Force’s Louis Sayers will be hoping for a win against his former club.
