Best joins Yorkshire as Jones strikes back for Kent

WEST Indian pace bowler Tino Best watched his new Yorkshire team-mates in their cut-and-thrust encounter at Canterbury after being collected from Gatwick Airport at 5am by director of cricket Martyn Moxon.

Best had been stuck in his native Barbados after volcanic ash caused a number of flight restrictions, but will now be available for Sunday's ECB 40 League opener against Essex at Chelmsford.

"I'm delighted to have arrived at Yorkshire, and I'm desperate to play county cricket," said Best.

"I'm very grateful to Yorkshire for giving me this opportunity, and I am looking forward to showing them what I can do."

Yorkshire's County Championship match against Kent at Canterbury continues to be beautifully poised.

At lunch on day three, Kent are 96-2 in their second innings - a lead of 130 - to leave the contest hanging in the balance.

Kent will be happier with their morning's work.

On another sun-kissed day at the St Lawrence Ground, they needed only 33 balls to wrap up the Yorkshire first innings after the visitors resumed on 280-8 in reply to the home side's 317.

Ajmal Shahzad was the first to go, lbw to Amjad Khan for 14, before Oliver Hannon-Dalby was lbw to Azhar Mahmood for a duck.

David Wainwright was left stranded on his overnight score of 16 as Yorkshire were dimissed for 283, Azhar finishing with 4-58.

Yorkshire made an early breakthrough as Kent sought to build on a lead of 34.

Joe Denly was caught behind trying to drive Tim Bresnan to leave Kent 4-1 in the third over, but former England wicketkeeper Geraint Jones steadied the ship in excellent style.

Fleet of foot and firm on the drive, Jones picked out gaps with aplomb and raced to a fine half-century from 69 balls.

Yorkshire's only other success came when Oliver Hannon-Dalby had Robert Key lbw with the total on 39.

At the break, Jones is unbeaten on 53 and Martin van Jaarsveld undefeated on 19.
