Big things expected from Set The Trend

ANDREW Balding expects Set The Trend to run a big race in the Fergusson Coal Doncaster Mile Stakes tomorrow evening.

The Listed contest on Town Moor has attracted a field of six, including Ed Dunlop’s Fareer and The Rectifier, having his first run for Jim Boyle.

Set The Trend looked progressive last year, winning the Shergar Cup Mile before finishing down the field in the Cambridgeshire.

“He’ll go up to Doncaster for the Listed Mile as long as the ground isn’t too quick,” said Balding.

“The last time he ran was in the Cambridgeshire but he was drawn on the wrong side so we’ve put a line through that.

“He’s a pretty useful horse on his day and I would have thought that he’ll run very well.”

The Azamour colt was a bit warm down at the start and raced very keenly in the early stages behind a generous pace set by Libranno.

As Yaseer went up Libranno’s inside, Fallon took the 8-11 favourite down the centre of the track and he took over a furlong-and-a-half out. He pulled a couple of lengths clear before Fallon gave him a reminder as he began to idle close home, but he still beat Libranno by two lengths.

Coral left him unchanged at 16-1 but Victor Chandler cut him to 10-1 from 16s for the 2000 Guineas.

* Mahmood Al Zarooni believes Dubai Prince may be a more viable contender for the 2000 Guineas than his stable companion Casamento.

Both colts joined the Godolphin trainer at the start of the year following excellent juvenile campaigns. Casamento won Doncaster’s Racing Post Trophy on his final start for Mick Halford, while Dubai Prince was a dual winner for Dermot Weld.

Al Zarooni said: “I need to discuss that with His Highness (Sheikh Mohammed), but I think Dubai Prince could be the one to run in the Guineas.

“Both show me they are good horses. Casamento proved it last year when he won the Racing Post Trophy and Dubai Prince won a Group Three in Ireland. When I wake up, I think of both of them.”

Kieren Fallon will miss the Guineas meeting, though, after being slapped with a 10-day suspension at Kempton on Wednesday night.
